Kathy approaches clients’ patent needs with an eye toward long-term strategy.
Kathy oversees patent prosecution for a diverse array of clients that range from individual inventors to universities to Fortune 500 companies and multinational corporations. She helps U.S. companies protect their innovations at home and abroad, while guiding international companies through the U.S. patent system. Her primary focus is life sciences technologies, and her experience extends to patent portfolio management, freedom-to-operate assessments, noninfringement and invalidity reviews, licensing agreements, and due diligence.
Kathy’s approach is always deeply intentional. Rather than filing patents for the sake of numbers, Kathy works with clients to develop strategies that support commercialization and help bring new technologies to the public. She aims to understand not only why clients are seeking a patent, but how a particular patent will fit into broader business goals. She also considers where each company is in its lifecycle—whether preparing for a sale, entering licensing negotiations, or expanding a portfolio—and tailors her advice to support those goals.
With a background in biochemistry, a Ph.D. in pharmacology, and hands-on experience as a postdoctoral researcher, Kathy understands the scientific details behind innovations and speaks the language of client scientists. She also understands how scientific details fit into the patent prosecution world, and she see her role as bridging the gap between scientific and legal perspectives.
Clients value Kathy’s strategic insight and the care she brings to every project. She approaches each matter as if it were her own, making thoughtful recommendations and keeping business needs front and center. Working with Kathy means partnering with a professional who understands both the science and the strategy behind strong patent protection.
